The California state legislature enacted Senate Bill 1 (SB1, Murray, 2006) to encourage the installation of 3,000 megawatts of photovoltaic solar energy by the year 2017. The bill is part of the Governor's Million Solar Roofs Initiative, which seeks to create a self - sustaining, photovoltaic solar electricity market.
SB1 requires all publicly owned electric utilities to adopt, finance, and implement a solar initiative program for the purpose of investing in, and encouraging the increased installation of residential and commercial solar systems.
NCPA members are answering the challenge of moving California towards a cleaner energy future. Towards this end, NCPA members have established solar energy programs, locally designed and implemented, to meet the unique needs of the communities they serve. Local programs tailored to community needs will maximize the results and benefits of solar energy installations, thus helping California to realize its solar energy goals.
