Extreme weather events in recent years have resulted in excessive sediment behind McKays Reservoir, impacting the operation of NCPA’s hydroelectric project.  The U.S. Forest Service changed their policies and will no longer allow NCPA to dispose of sediment on USFS lands if alternatives exist.

NCPA is working with USFS and delegation to change the policy, since doing so will improve forest watersheds, reduce wildfire risks, increase electric system affordability and reliability, prevent undue costs to electricity consumers, and better accommodate the climate change environment we see today.
